5 Ways Technology is Changing HR

If you love seeing a healthy, happy relationship, then you are going to love the changes that are becoming more prevalent as a result of the marriage between Human Resources and technology.  HR and technology have been involved for years on a very basic level; however, that partnership has grown and is changing the way companies utilize their HR departments.

Data

Data is king.  And the number of data-mining technologies can be a bit overwhelming if you are in the market for software.  Whether you are looking for recruitment software that can search for skill-specific individuals or access to data that makes HR more efficient, there are a number of solutions out there.  Having a good grasp on the operational needs of your company in terms of people and business decisions is a prerequisite for software shopping.  Beware of the many whistles, bells, and shiny objects and stick to what you need.

Integration

Given limitations of some technologies, businesses are often faced with the task of replacing existing technologies and processes to best utilize new software. This is absolutely the wrong approach. Look for an application that can easily integrate with existing tools and processes

Information technology makes it possible for human resources professionals to train new staff members in a more efficient manner as well. The ability to access company information and training programs from remote locations eliminates the need for trainers to work directly with new hires on all training. Some interaction will always be necessary on some level, of course, but training in virtual classrooms makes it possible for the HR professionals to train a large number of employees quickly and to assess their progress through computerized testing programs.

Performance Management

Collecting accurate production related data as well as performance management data gives HR the ability to better monitor performance and training needs. Instead of trying to provide annual and semi-annual reviews, instant up to the minute production data, for example, allows for instant employee reviews.  These instant reviews are great for making changes immediately instead of waiting until the next review time or using outdated information to determine training needs.
